Images Left to Right: West Coast Portugal, End of world as they knew it, Benagil Ocean Caves, Algarve Coast.
The western and southern coast of Portugal is a rugged coast with beautiful views and beaches.
We positioned ourselves in the town of Albufiera which is centrally located on the cost of southern Portugal. Lively town with tons of restaurants, bars, a vibrant night life and great beach.
From Albufiera we visited Sagres (the southern most point of Europe), which is roughly 1 hour east of Albufiera, and back in the day, considered the end of the world by Europeans. Making our way back we stopped in Lagos, which has fantastic beaches and vistas, and the quiet little town of Salema.
Other stops west of our location was Portimao and Benagil beach where we took a sea cave tour. We booked a :30 express trip and saw the famous Benagil cave and a number of others. Used Taruga tours and the guides were great and was a just enough time. We recommend you do!
East we went to Vila Nova de Cacela and transverse the inlet at low tide to get to the secluded beach. Quit the adventure! And, then stopped on our way back, at the town of Tavira. Beautiful little town, which I wished we would of spent more time!
I see the allure of the southern coast! Great little towns and beaches, it’s like the European’s Florida! Recommend a visit for 5-7 days!
